The making of an outdoor wicker dining chair

There is a big difference in the quality of outdoor furniture products on the market today. So here we explain a little about the make up of our Maldives outdoor dining wicker chair to give you an understanding of what goes into a quality outdoor furniture product.

First we start with a full heavy gauge aluminium frame. This is essential in outdoor furniture in order to prevent rust that will weaken the structure of the chair. The aluminium is then welded. This provides a stronger structure for the chair than merely bolting the frame pieces together and will not come loose over time. The aluminium is then powder coated providing extra protection and a coloured base layer to suit the overlying wicker. The wicker process is then started. Before the actual weaving gets underway all the high wear areas are given a reinforcing layer of wicker and the seat area has strong but flexible strapping installed to ensure the seat takes years of use resisting sagging. The weaving process takes around a day for a highly skilled craftsman. You’ll note that the back and sides of the chair have two layers of wicker ensuring the whole structure is inherently strong. With the body of the chair complete, the last piece is the cushion. While the chair can be certainly used without one, it does take the comfort to a new level. This chair uses superlux foam. But the really special part is the cushion cover. We use a Sunbrella high performance outdoor fabric. This easy care fabric is highly fade and mildew resistant and is backed by Sunbrella with a five year warranty. Add to this a YKK nylon zip and you have a premium cover that is easily removable for washing. The combination of the expertly constructed piece made from aluminium, grade 5 UV stabilised synthetic wicker, Sunbrella and YKK zips delivers a high quality all weather product that will serve you for years. maldives-setting
