Caring for your outdoor rug
- 14 Aug 2025
Our Outdoor Elegance rugs are crafted from high-performance materials such as Polypropylene and UVanta – Solution Dyed Olefin, designed to resist fading, moisture, and mildew. With simple care, they’ll stay looking beautiful for years.
1. General Maintenance
-
Vacuum or shake regularly to remove dirt, dust and debris.
-
Sweep or use a leaf blower to quickly remove debris and prevent build up.
TIP: Rotate the rug occasionally to ensure even wear and sun exposure.
2. Spot Cleaning Spills & Stains
-
Blot immediately – Do not rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibres.
-
Mix mild detergent and water – Use a gentle dish soap and lukewarm water.
-
Gently scrub the affected area with a soft-bristle brush or clean cloth.
-
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue.
-
Air dry completely before placing the rug back in use. Avoid direct, prolonged sun during drying to preserve colour vibrancy.
3. Deep Cleaning
Move the rug to a clean, flat surface such as a driveway or lawn.
-
Vacuum or shake to remove loose dirt.
-
Mix cleaning solution: mild soap and lukewarm water.
-
Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub both sides of the rug.
-
Rinse thoroughly using a garden hose until water runs clear.
-
Hang or lay flat to dry in a well-ventilated area before returning to use.

4. Mildew & Odour Prevention
-
Both Polypropylene and UVanta fibres are mildew-resistant, but mildew can grow on trapped dirt. Regular cleaning prevents this.
-
If mildew appears, use a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water, scrub gently, rinse well, and air dry.
5. Storage Tips
-
Ensure the rug is completely dry before storing.
-
Roll (do not fold) and store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
-
Avoid prolonged storage in plastic wrap – breathable fabric covers are best.
Important:
-
Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach, or high-pressure cleaners, as these may damage fibres and reduce UV protection.
-
Avoid placing heavy furniture with sharp legs directly on the rug to prevent crushing or tearing.
