The Frame Material
The strength and longevity of any outdoor lounge starts with its frame. For the Aspen, that means selecting a high-grade, heavy-gauge aluminium — the ideal material for outdoor furniture in Australia.
Unlike unprotected steel, aluminium will not rust. Unlike some cheaper timber models, it will not rot, split, or crack. It is low-maintenance, holds clean lines, and suits virtually any outdoor space.
Beyond the grade of the metal itself, we have incorporated additional internal reinforcing channels throughout the frame. This is especially critical on the longer spans of two- and three-seater models, where structural integrity is most demanding.
The Construction
The Aspen features a fully welded frame — a detail that matters more than most buyers realise. Flat-pack designs are cheaper to produce and ship, but they introduce weak points at every join. Welding eliminates those weak points entirely, keeping the lounge solid for years to come.
Welding also removes the visible joins that can undermine the clean lines of aluminium furniture. And of course, there is nothing to assemble.
The base of the seat is equally well considered. Rather than a strap or sling-style base — which can sag or split over time — we use aluminium slats welded directly to the main frame. Lift the cushions on any Aspen and you will see the difference immediately. When comparing lounges in store, this is always the first thing to check.
The Finish
Powder coating is the benchmark method for colouring metal furniture. A dry powder is applied to the aluminium, then baked to produce a hard, uniformly coloured surface. Not all powder coats are equal, however.
For the Aspen, we specify Tiger powder coat — a premium product we have used across thousands of furniture pieces. Compared to standard alternatives, Tiger coat has demonstrated significantly greater resistance to scuffing and scratching. It also holds up better against UV degradation, keeping the finish looking sharp for considerably longer in exposed outdoor settings.
The Cushion Fabrics
On a lounge built to last as long as the Aspen, the cushion fabric needs to keep pace with the frame. The Aspen is available with two world-class outdoor performance fabrics — Sunbrella and UVanta — both chosen for their exceptional durability, UV resistance, and comfort under hand.
Sunbrella
Sunbrella is a solution-dyed acrylic and the gold standard in outdoor fabrics, used worldwide on umbrellas, marine upholstery, and commercial awnings. We have used it on Outdoor Elegance products for almost 20 years, supplying hundreds of thousands of Sunbrella-covered cushions in that time.
- Extraordinary fade resistance — solution-dyed construction embeds colour into the fibre, not just the surface
- Easy to clean in place — no need to remove covers for routine maintenance
- Water repellent coating as standard
- Inherently mould and mildew resistant
- Softer hand-feel than most synthetic outdoor fabrics
Select Aspen models feature a French-made Sunbrella textile with an even softer, more opulent feel — available in the Grey Chine and Sooty colourways.
UVanta
UVanta's premium solution-dyed bouclé is a step up in textural luxury — combining the tactile character of a refined indoor fabric with full outdoor performance. Engineered specifically for the demands of the Australian climate, it delivers across every key measure.
- Solution-dyed for lasting colour — pigment is locked into the fibre core for outstanding fade resistance
- Easy to clean in place — no need to remove covers for routine maintenance
- Water repellent treatment applied to the fabric surface
- Mould and mildew resistant — essential in humid coastal climates
- Distinctively luxurious bouclé texture — brings an interior-design sensibility to the outdoor room
Available on the Aspen in the Bouclé Beech colourway — a warm, natural neutral that pairs beautifully with a white frame and teak accents.
Textaline Base Panel
Our attention to cushion design does not stop at the outer fabric. While both Sunbrella and UVanta are water repellent, extended rain will eventually allow some moisture to penetrate the cushion. This is by design — a completely sealed cushion cover would trap moisture inside and damage the foam over time.
To facilitate easy drainage, every Aspen cushion features a durable PVC mesh panel on the base. This ensures any moisture that enters can work through the foam and escape, while keeping the cushion consistently breathable across all conditions.
The Cushion Construction
Selecting the right base cushion for a premium outdoor lounge requires more thought than it might appear. The ideal construction holds its form under extended use, recovers its shape over time, and remains genuinely comfortable throughout. These requirements can pull against each other.
After years of development and refinement, the Aspen uses a pillow-top construction that resolves this tension: a high-quality, medium-density quick-drying foam core is wrapped in a high-loft thermofill layer. The result is the support and shape-retention of a dense foam base, with the yielding softness of a pillow top.
The Weight
Weight is one of the most reliable indicators of material quality in outdoor furniture. Thicker aluminium, internal reinforcing channels, and substantial cushioning all add up — and the Aspen reflects this directly.
Aspen two-seater weight — versus a typical 13–19 kg for a comparable aluminium two-seater. Up to double the material substance.
That additional mass also offers a practical benefit in high-wind environments. On apartment balconies or exposed coastal settings, the Aspen's weight provides meaningful stability compared to lighter alternatives that can shift or topple in strong gusts.
When comparing lounges in person, simply pick up one end. The difference is immediately obvious.
Colour Options
The Aspen is available in three curated colourways, each pairing a frame colour with a specific fabric chosen to complement it perfectly.
White / Grey Chine suits coastal settings, white architectural trims, lighter paving, or anywhere a brighter, airier feel is the goal. Charcoal / Sooty is a tone-on-tone combination that works with almost any outdoor environment — particularly striking on merbau decking or darker stone. White / Bouclé Beech brings a warm, textural indoor-outdoor quality that pairs naturally with timber and teak accents for a relaxed, contemporary look.
Collection Variety
One of the Aspen's greatest strengths is how much range it offers within a single, cohesive design language. Across ten years of development, the collection has grown to encompass three distinct sub-ranges — each with its own character and best-suited use case — alongside a full ecosystem of complementary pieces.
Aspen Lounge
The original. Generous proportions, wide aluminium arms, and deep-seat comfort. Available as a single armchair, two-seater, or three-seater — ideal for traditional lounge settings on decks and patios.
Aspen Platform
A sleeker, lower-profile design with integrated side table accents in either teak or ceramic. Teak brings warmth and natural contrast; ceramic delivers a refined stone-inspired surface with outstanding durability.
Aspen Modular
Designed for flexibility. Individual modular pieces connect to create the exact configuration your space requires — from compact two-piece settings to large, wraparound corner lounges.
Beyond the lounge itself, the Aspen ecosystem includes sun loungers, daybeds, dining settings, bar tables, coffee tables, and side tables — all designed to coordinate across frame colours, cushion fabrics, and accent materials. Build a complete outdoor room where every piece belongs.
With over 30 individual pieces across two frame colours, the possible configurations number in the hundreds. No two Aspen setups need to look the same.
Maintenance
Any outdoor furniture will require some level of upkeep. The Aspen keeps that obligation to a minimum.
Frame
Wipe down with mild soapy water as needed. For full-sun locations, a non-abrasive car wax applied periodically adds extra protection to the Tiger powder coat.
Cushion Fabric
Both Sunbrella and UVanta can be cleaned in place — no need to remove covers for routine cleaning. Mild soapy water and a soft brush handle most situations. For tougher stains such as wine, coffee, or sunscreen, Sunbrella publishes a detailed stain guide on their website.
Covers and Storage
Covering the lounge when not in use significantly reduces cleaning and extends the life of both frame and fabric. We stock dedicated weather covers for the Aspen in our online accessories store.
Coastal Environments
In salt-air locations, more frequent rinsing and waxing of the frame is recommended. Both Sunbrella's and UVanta's mould and mildew resistance make them well-suited to humid coastal conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the Aspen collection
Is the Aspen outdoor lounge waterproof?
All Aspen materials are engineered for outdoor use and handle rain without issue. The aluminium frame will not rust or rot — it can remain outdoors in any weather indefinitely. The cushion covers are treated with a water repellent coating and will shed light rain easily. They are intentionally not fully waterproof, however. A sealed cover would trap moisture inside the foam, preventing it from drying and potentially causing damage over time. Instead, the cushion construction is designed to manage water sensibly: if enough rain penetrates the cover, it moves through the foam layers and drains away through the Textaline base panel on the underside of each cushion, allowing the cushions to breathe and dry naturally. For extended periods of rain or when the lounge is not in use, a weather cover is the easiest way to keep the cushions dry.
What is the Aspen outdoor lounge made from?
The Aspen features a heavy-gauge aluminium frame with internal reinforcing channels and fully welded construction, finished with Tiger powder coat. Cushions are available in either Sunbrella (including French-made soft-touch options) or UVanta premium solution-dyed bouclé, over a pillow-top foam and thermofill construction. All cushions include a PVC mesh textaline base panel for drainage and breathability.
What are the Aspen colour options?
The Aspen is available in three colourways: White frame with Sunbrella Grey Chine cushions, Charcoal frame with Sunbrella Sooty cushions, and White frame with UVanta Bouclé Beech cushions.
What is the difference between the Aspen Lounge, Platform, and Modular?
The Aspen Lounge range consists of fully welded, one-piece lounges available in three-seater, two-seater, and single armchair versions. Their distinctive feature is the wide aluminium arms. The Aspen Platform incorporates side tables directly into the design, with the option to insert either teak or ceramic panels. The Aspen Modular is the most flexible range, with individual pieces that connect to create corner lounges and custom configurations tailored to any space. Every seating piece in the Aspen collection shares the same frame profile, so pieces from across the ranges can easily be used together.
What is the difference between Sunbrella and UVanta fabric?
Both are premium outdoor performance fabrics offering strong UV resistance, water repellency, mould and mildew resistance, and easy in-place cleaning. Sunbrella is a globally recognised brand with a solution-dyed process and a soft hand-feel — including a French-made option with an especially opulent finish. UVanta is a solution-dyed bouclé that adds a distinctive textural character, bringing an interior design quality to the outdoor setting. Outdoor Elegance has used Sunbrella for almost 20 years; UVanta represents the newer bouclé option for those seeking something tactilely different.
How heavy is the Aspen two-seater and why does it matter?
The Aspen two-seater weighs approximately 30 kg, compared to a typical range of 13–19 kg for standard aluminium two-seater lounges in Australia — up to double the material substance. This reflects the thicker aluminium gauge, internal reinforcing channels, and quality cushion materials. The additional weight also provides practical stability in high-wind environments such as apartment balconies.
How do you clean and maintain the Aspen?
The frame should be wiped down with mild soapy water as needed; a non-abrasive car wax is recommended periodically in full-sun locations for extra protection. Both Sunbrella and UVanta cushion covers can be cleaned in place without removal — mild soapy water and a soft brush handle routine cleaning. Weather covers are available in our online accessories store to further reduce maintenance and extend the life of the lounge.
